ABUJA – The Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC), Mr. Bayo Ojulari, reported to his duty post on Monday, effectively putting to rest widespread rumors of his resignation that had circulated over the weekend.
Ojulari, who was appointed by President Bola Tinubu on April 2, 2025, as part of a major overhaul of the company’s leadership, arrived at the NNPC Towers at approximately 9:35 a.m. His return to work was confirmed by a security source familiar with the matter, who also stated that staff had been instructed via an internal memo to disregard the social media rumors.
The speculation surrounding Ojulari’s alleged resignation was largely fueled by a significant communication vacuum at the state oil firm. Since his appointment five months ago, Ojulari has remained largely inaccessible to the media. The situation was compounded by the resignation of the Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Mr. Olufemi Soneye, on June 21, 2025, leaving the department without a designated head.
This lack of official communication has made it increasingly difficult for journalists to obtain official responses on company matters, with access to the NNPC Towers also becoming heavily restricted.
An anonymous source within the NNPCL, who was not authorized to speak to the media, confirmed that the GCEO had not resigned. “It is a sad situation, which has affected our operations. Ojulari was just settling down to work. Now, everyone has been distracted,” the source said, adding a hope that the matter could be put behind them so that normal work could resume.
