DELTA: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering quality projects that prioritize public interest over personal relationships.
Speaking on Thursday during an inspection of multiple projects in Asaba, the state capital, Governor Oborevwori emphasized that competence, integrity, and value for money remain key pillars of his administration’s M.O.R.E Agenda.
Ogbeosonwe, Ogbeilo Road, Ogbogonogo Market Storm Drainage, and Ogbe-Ofu Road, Off Jarret Road, Cable Point, Asaba.
1.7km Amaechi Agusi Street and 10 adjoining streets, including Dorah Allanah Street, Oluu Street, Burutu Drive, Odilison Junior Crescent, and Ngozi Odiaka Avenue.
Other streets inspected include Aloy Isomede Street, Ezeobi Ojukwu Street, Ajudua Street in Okpanam, Aretha Table Water Street, Off NTA Road Asaba, and Redeemer’s Street, Asaba.
“I was elected to serve the people of Delta, not to please a select few. Friendship cannot and will not take precedence over the quality of projects we provide for the people,” Oborevwori declared.
The governor decried the performance of some indigenous contractors, urging them to deliver quality work or risk being blacklisted. “The major problem we are facing is with some of our indigenous contractors. While we believe in supporting them, they must step up their performance. Those not delivering quality jobs will be blacklisted. The interest of the public outweighs any individual interest,” he said.
Addressing concerns over project reviews, Oborevwori acknowledged the impact of inflation on construction materials. “Since assuming office, the cost of materials has increased significantly. For instance, the exchange rate has jumped from N750 to about N1600 per dollar. We are only reviewing contracts awarded in 2022 and early 2023 after assessing the extent of work done,” he explained.
The governor also noted that contractors have resumed work across various sites, adding, “We won’t spare anyone. Do the right thing or face the consequences.”
Clean Environment Advocacy
Governor Oborevwori further urged Asaba residents to maintain clean environments. He directed the Commissioner for Environment, the Chairman of the Waste Management Board, and the Taskforce on Environment to enforce compliance.
“Cleanliness is essential. I expect all residents to cooperate with the relevant authorities to keep our surroundings clean,” he added.
