Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has emerged as one of Nigeria’s most celebrated public servants after clinching the 2024 Vanguard Governor of the Year Award for Good Governance, an accolade that underlines his rising profile as a development-focused leader.

At a glittering ceremony held in Lagos, the Vanguard Newspaper honoured Oborevwori for what it described as his “purpose-driven and people-focused” governance. The recognition came in acknowledgment of the governor’s efforts to deliver infrastructure, promote inclusive policies, and deepen peace and security across the state under his “MORE” agenda, Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security.

Reacting to the award, Oborevwori dedicated the honour to the people of Delta State, saying it serves as both validation and motivation for his administration.

“This award is not about me alone. It’s a tribute to the resilience of Deltans and a reminder that our work is far from done. We remain committed to delivering impactful leadership and the dividends of democracy to every part of Delta State,” he said.

The governor’s first term has so far been marked by the completion of key infrastructure projects, expansion in healthcare and education, and strategic economic reforms, earning him praise even beyond party lines. His administration’s projects have been lauded for their speed and scale, with roads, schools, and hospitals springing up in urban and rural areas alike.

Political observers and residents alike have taken to various platforms to commend the governor, noting that his leadership has brought stability and a new wave of optimism to the state amid national economic challenges.

For many, Oborevwori’s award is not just another plaque on the wall but a reflection of a leader who is quietly but steadily changing the narrative in Delta State.
