Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has flagged off the reconstruction of the Warri–Sapele Road dual carriageway, describing the project as another milestone in the infrastructure renewal drive of his administration in partnership with the Federal Government.
The Governor while speaking during the ceremony in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area on Tuesday said the project, stretching five kilometres on each side making a total of ten kilometres was being reconstructed at the request of the Federal Ministry of Works under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.
He said the new section would feature a 200-millimetre-thick continuous reinforced concrete pavement, expanded to 8.8 metres on each side, with 2.8-metre concrete shoulders and 12 kilometres of storm-water drains.
Oborevwori explained that the state government awarded the contract to CCEC Construction Company Limited at a cost of ₦33.57 billion, with 20 percent amounting to ₦8.9 billion already paid as mobilisation.
“Our intervention today is strategic and people-centred,” he said. “For a long time, the poor state of this road has been a nightmare to commuters, traders, and farmers. Many have suffered losses because of delays and vehicle damages. This reconstruction will deliver a durable dual carriageway that guarantees comfort, safety, and economic growth.”
The governor noted that development happens faster when the federal and state governments work together, stressing that the collaboration between both tiers would continue in the interest of Deltans.
“We did not hesitate to take on this project even though it is a federal road. Our concern is not who owns the road but the safety and comfort of our people,” he added.
Oborevwori also highlighted other ongoing projects in Warri, including the flyover and dualisation works from Effurun Roundabout to DSC Roundabout, saying they were designed to ease traffic congestion in the oil-rich city.
On security, the governor commended the police, DSS, and other agencies for their efforts in reducing crime, assuring that his administration would continue to support them to sustain peace in the state.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security operatives, noting that “security is a shared responsibility, and we must all play our part.”
Oborevwori further told residents of the area to appreciate the massive infrastructural investments made by his administration, saying, “We are doing these projects not because of local boundaries but because everyone farmers, traders, and travellers benefits from them.”
He then formally flagged off the reconstruction of the Warri–Sapele dual carriageway, praying for the successful completion of the project “to the glory of God and the benefit of our people.”
