Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has reiterated his administration’s resolve to sustain a strong partnership with the church in advancing the state’s sustainable development goals.
The governor made this known in Bomadi during a thanksgiving Mass held to mark the 70th birthday of the Bishop of Bomadi Catholic Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Hyacinth Egbebo.
Represented by his Senior Policy Adviser, Rt. Hon. Funkekeme Solomon, Governor Oborevwori described the church as a vital pillar of development and social stability in Delta and across Nigeria.
“In times like these, the prayers and support of the church are critical in making governance more meaningful,” he said, urging continued collaboration through prayers, moral guidance, and community-based initiatives.
He commended Bishop Egbebo for his courage in speaking up for the voiceless and promoting peace, adding that his administration remains committed to equitable development across the state.
Highlighting key projects in Bomadi and its environs, Oborevwori listed the completed Ohoror–Bomadi Road, the Tamigbe–Torugbene Road, and the ongoing Ayakoromor Bridge project, which he said was nearing completion.
He reaffirmed his determination to leave behind one of the best networks of roads in Nigeria by the end of his tenure.
In his homily, the Bishop of Warri Diocese, Most Rev. Anthony Ewherido, stressed the importance of gratitude and accountability, reminding Christians to be thankful for life and to use their blessings responsibly.
“Life is a gift we must be thankful for—a gift we must not take for granted. We will all give account of how we used our blessings,” Bishop Ewherido said.
In his remarks, Bishop Egbebo thanked Governor Oborevwori for the reconstruction of the Ohoror–Bomadi Road and assured him of the church’s continued prayers for the success of his administration.
The celebration was graced by the Metropolitan Archbishop of Benin Ecclesiastical Province, Most Rev. Dr. Augustine Obiora Akubueze; Bishop Ewherido of Warri Diocese; and the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who was represented by his Deputy Chief of Staff.
