Oborevwori Sustaining Peace in Delta Through Impactful Projects, Empowerment – Ifeajika

By Peter Onyekachukwu

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has been commended for sustaining peace and stability across the state through the deliberate execution of people-focused projects and impactful empowerment programmes.

The commendation was given by the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Public Enlightenment (Projects and Policies), Mr. Olisa Ifeajika, while speaking on “Niger Delta Today” on ADBN Television.

Ifeajika described the Oborevwori administration’s governance approach as strategic, inclusive and highly effective, noting that it had strengthened harmonious coexistence, grassroots development and security across the state.

According to him, the relative peace currently enjoyed in the state is the result of conscious and well-coordinated government actions rather than coincidence.

“What we are witnessing in Delta State today, particularly in terms of security, is something many other states genuinely admire. The peace we enjoy did not happen by chance; it is the outcome of deliberate and well-thought-out actions by the Delta State Government,” he said.

He identified youth engagement as a critical pillar of the administration’s peace strategy, explaining that several programmes had been designed to productively engage young people across the state.

“When youths are meaningfully engaged, they are less inclined toward restiveness or criminal activity. The government has rolled out programmes that young people genuinely appreciate and look forward to,” Ifeajika stated.

He also noted that the state government had taken proactive steps to support security agencies by providing equipment and logistics with state resources rather than waiting solely for federal intervention.

“Security agencies in Delta State are well supported, well equipped and properly motivated. There is also a coordinated Joint Task Force to ensure that all parts of the state are adequately covered,” he added.

As the 2027 political season approaches, Ifeajika disclosed that the Police command in the state had reiterated the need to sustain the existing peace, recalling that it was built through deliberate engagement, encouragement and trust, particularly with the youth population.

Reflecting on the early days of the administration, Ifeajika acknowledged that there were initial doubts and skepticism in some quarters, but said the government chose action over argument in responding to negative criticisms.

“Rather than engage in endless debates, the administration responded with projects that are visible and impactful. Today, the results speak for themselves,” he said.

He noted that ongoing development projects now cut across all parts of the state, with virtually every community benefiting from one form of intervention or another, including infrastructural support to security agencies.

According to him, this widespread development has fostered satisfaction among residents, redirecting their energy toward productive ventures and away from unwholesome activities, thereby strengthening peace.

“This peace is intentional. People see projects in their communities and feel a sense of ownership. That collective participation is why peace continues to thrive in Delta State,” he said.

On recent improvements in security, Ifeajika attributed the gains to public confidence in governance, explaining that visible development naturally reduced tension.

“When people are happy and see leadership responding to their aspirations, hostility diminishes. Those who were once skeptical are now applauding the government. Happiness breeds peace,” he said, adding that some security strategies remained confidential for operational reasons.

Speaking on infrastructure, Ifeajika highlighted major road and flyover projects across the state, noting that even the announcement of some projects like the Uromi Junction Flyover in Agbor and Otovwodo Junction Flyover in Ughelli, sparked jubilation due to their life-saving and economic significance.

“These are major investments to be executed by reputable contractors to ensure quality, durability and long-term value. Bridges, flyovers and road expansions are connecting communities, reducing travel time and stimulating economic activities,” he said

He also stressed the importance of community participation, and urged residents to monitor projects in their localities and report any substandard work through dedicated government channels to ensure accountability.

According to him, the Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborewhori, had charged Deltans and residents to leverage the government’s “whistle-blowing” policy to report cases of shoddy jobs by contractors.

On economic empowerment, Ifeajika said that the state government recently introduced a N1 billion loan scheme for operators of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the state.

He explained that the scheme, which was being managed by Bank of Industry was in addition to existing business empowerment and skill-acquisition programmes targeted at traders, youths, women, farmers, artisans and widows.

The programme, he explained, offered one-digit interest financing managed through credible development finance institutions to ensure transparency, sustainability and revolving access for more beneficiaries.

In agriculture, Ifeajika disclosed that no fewer than 12,000 farmers across various value chains had been profiled and supported with inputs, funding and technical assistance, adding that civil servants had also been encouraged to participate in “Homestead” farming to boost food security.

He cited the state’s large-scale rice farming initiative, involving hundreds of hectares of land in Aviara, Isoko South Local Government Area, as a major step toward food sufficiency, job-creation and reduced dependence on food imports.

Ifeajika concluded that the combination of security investment, youth engagement, infrastructure development, economic empowerment and agricultural expansion had positioned Delta State as a peaceful, stable and prosperous destination.

“Delta is fast becoming a wonderful place to live, work and do business,” he said.
