DELTA: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has announced that the groundbreaking ceremony for the Asaba International Market will be held before the end of January 2025.

Governor Oborevwori made this disclosure on Sunday during an inspection tour of the market site in Asaba, the state capital.

Speaking at the site, the Governor expressed his administration’s commitment to ensuring the project is completed on schedule, adding that the market will boost economic activities in the region.

“We have already given the go-ahead for construction to start. This market is part of our efforts to give Asaba a facelift. We will be here later this month to perform the official groundbreaking ceremony,” Oborevwori said.

The Governor revealed that the project, which is a partnership with EFAB Properties, is aimed at transforming the old Abraka Market into a modern commercial hub.

Governor Oborevwori noted that the market will feature over 600 open and lock-up shops, as well as a model primary school, designed to serve traders and their families.

“This is more than just a market; it’s a community development project. We are creating an environment where traders can do business and their children can attend school in a safe, clean environment,” he added.

The Governor stressed that his administration will prioritize infrastructure development across Delta State to improve the living standards of residents.

“Many of the roads in Asaba are due for repairs. We will continue to maintain old roads and construct new ones to ensure the capital territory has the infrastructure it deserves,” he said.

The Asaba International Market is part of the government’s broader urban renewal agenda for the state capital.

Governor Oborevwori’s administration aims to transform Asaba into a modern, clean, and business-friendly city, capable of attracting investors and creating jobs for residents.

The market is expected to serve as a central trading hub for the Delta North region and beyond, providing opportunities for local businesses to thrive.
