Oborevwori Unity Cup Kicks Off August 3

The Sheriff Oborevwori Under-17 Unity Cup will begin on August 3, 2025, in Delta Central. The football competition will feature young players from the eight local government areas in the senatorial district.

Chief Amurun Idama Esq, who is the sponsor and Chairman of Arthur Ferdinand Ltd, said the aim is to promote unity, football development, and sportsmanship.

According to Chief Idama, “This is about giving our youths a platform to shine while promoting unity and peace across Delta Central.”

The inauguration and draw for the tournament took place on July 13, 2025, at Kariot Hotel and Suites. During the event, members of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) were officially unveiled.

The LOC is made up of 15 major committee members and 16 sub-committee members. It is led by Mr. Edema Fuludu Mon, a former Super Eagles player.

The tournament will be played in a round-robin format among the eight LGAs. The winning team will receive ₦5 million, a golden trophy, and gold medals.

Each participating LGA will also get an appearance fee of ₦1 million. The second-place team will win ₦3 million, the third will get ₦2 million, and fourth place will go home with ₦1 million.

There will also be prizes for best player, highest goal scorer, best goalkeeper, most valuable team, and best coach.

The matches will hold every weekend at different locations across Delta Central. The opening game between Ethiope East and Ughelli North will take place at Ekpan Police Station football field on August 3.

Mr. Edema Fuludu said, “We expect a peaceful and colourful tournament that will inspire our youths and show the football talent Delta has to offer.”

The organisers believe the tournament will foster pride in the region and offer young talents an opportunity to grow through sports.
