DELTA: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has been named Governor of the Year 2024 by ThisDay Newspaper and Arise Television, earning recognition for his fiscal discipline and remarkable strides in infrastructural development across the state.

The award, presented on Monday night at a grand ceremony held at Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos, highlights the Governor’s achievements during his 18 months in office.

While announcing the award, Prince Nduka Obaigbena, Founder of THISDAY and ARISE Media Group, commended Governor Oborevwori for his exceptional governance. “Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State was underrated, but in his 18 months in power, he has not borrowed any cent from any bank, yet he keeps building infrastructure across the state,” Obaigbena said.

Former Commonwealth Secretary-General, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, who presented the award, described Oborevwori as “an achiever with great positive accomplishments.”

In his acceptance speech, Governor Oborevwori dedicated the award to God and the people of Delta State for their unwavering support. “This award is a recognition of our modest efforts in advancing Delta through our MORE Agenda. I dedicate this award to God Almighty and to the good people of Delta State,” he said.

Oborevwori expressed gratitude to the THISDAY/ARISE Media Group as they celebrated their 30th and 12th anniversaries, respectively, and assured Deltans that the award would motivate him to do more.

Speaking with journalists after the event, Oborevwori reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to grassroots development and capacity building. “As a man with street credibility, we are in touch with the grassroots. While we are building infrastructure, we are also building our people. You can have infrastructure, but if the people are hungry, it means nothing.”

He highlighted his administration’s investment in agriculture, infrastructure, and other critical sectors, promising to intensify efforts in 2025. “We are focused on building a peaceful state and a resilient economy for the benefit of all Deltans,” the Governor added.

Governor Oborevwori was honored alongside Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State, and Uba Sani of Kaduna State, who were also recognized for their contributions to governance in their respective states.

With this recognition, Governor Oborevwori continues to solidify his reputation as a leader committed to transforming Delta State through innovative policies and inclusive development.
