Tensions are rising in Okuama Community, Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, following the death of 81-year-old Dennis Okugbaye, the community’s treasurer, while in military detention.
Okugbaye’s death on Tuesday comes just six days after the passing of the community’s President General, Pa James Achovwuko Oghoroko, under similar circumstances.
Both men were among six Okuama leaders arrested by the military in August 2024 and detained without trial.
Confirming the treasurer’s death, his son, Pastor Akpos Okugbaye, expressed deep anguish, calling the loss painful and unjust.
