In a regal display of honour and cultural reverence, His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, CFR, the Olu of Warri, has fulfilled his symbolic promise to Nigerian media icon, Uncle Sam Amuka-Pemu, ROI, CON, by presenting him with a distinguished royal feather — a rare mark of esteem from the Warri throne.
The presentation, held on June 24, 2025, was carried out on behalf of the monarch by Chief Brown Mene, the Ogwa Olusan of Warri, accompanied by Chief Lawrence Wilbert, the Agura-Tete of Warri. This royal gesture follows the Olu’s public pledge during his goodwill message at Uncle Sam’s 90th birthday celebration, which took place on June 13, 2025, at the Eko Convention Centre in Lagos.
The feather, a deeply symbolic adornment within the Itsekiri cultural heritage, represents honour, wisdom, and noble distinction attributes embodied by Uncle Sam over his remarkable decades long career in journalism and nation-building.
Speaking at the presentation, Chief Mene described the honour as “an expression of His Majesty’s admiration and the gratitude of the Warri Kingdom for Uncle Sam’s extraordinary service to truth, integrity, and national progress.”
This rare act of royal recognition not only celebrates a media titan but also underscores the Olu’s commitment to preserving tradition while honouring excellence across generations. It is a fitting tribute to a living legend whose legacy continues to inspire.
