The Olu of Warri Kingdom, Ogiame Atuwatse III, has urged newly inaugurated leaders of Aja-Etan Community Trust and the youth wing to prioritize development and community safety over extortion and intimidation of investors.

The revered monarch, who was represented by Chief Omolubi Newuwumi at the swearing-in ceremony in Warri South Local Government Area, emphasized that the practice of demanding illegal levies—popularly called “Deve”—from developers is not only counterproductive but detrimental to the community’s growth.

“You must not chase away developers with illegal demands. Your duty is to secure lives and property and create a peaceful atmosphere for development,” Chief Newuwumi relayed on behalf of the Olu.

Also speaking at the event, Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Comrade Agbateyiniro Weyinmi Isaac, through his representative, Hon. Amiwe Pinnick Mofe, reminded the youth of their pivotal role in shaping the community’s future.

“You are the eyes of the community. You must show character and be examples to the younger generation. Cultism and criminality have no place here, and any youth caught will face the full weight of the law,” he warned.

In his acceptance speech, the newly sworn-in Chairman of Aja-Etan Community Trust, Hon. Kingsley Tonukarin, pledged to lead with integrity and accountability. He acknowledged the community’s challenges but expressed hope for a brighter future through collaboration and purposeful leadership.

“Our mission is clear—security, peace, and progress. We’ll partner with host companies and stakeholders to enhance education, healthcare, and human capital development,” Tonukarin declared.

The event was attended by community leaders, stakeholders, and supporters, including Dr. (Mrs.) Mercy Emiko and her husband, who were seen showing solidarity at the ceremony.
