Oluremi Tinubu Honoured with Enugu Chieftaincy Title Amid Praise for National Impact

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, was on Tuesday conferred with a traditional title by the people of Enugu in a ceremony that reflected deep cultural appreciation and national unity. The Enugu State Council of Traditional Rulers bestowed upon her the title “Ugosimba 1 of Enugu,” which means “Eagle/Jewel from another kingdom.”

The honour came during her two-day working visit to Enugu, and it highlighted not just her presence in the state, but also her visible contributions to Nigeria’s development over the years. The conferment ceremony, held in Enugu, drew traditional rulers, top government functionaries, and community leaders.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council, His Royal Majesty Igwe Ikechukwu Asadu, commended Mrs. Tinubu’s legislative record and social advocacy efforts.

“Nobody could say you were silent at the parliament,” he said, referring to her three consecutive terms in the Senate. “We see how you uplift the lives of women, nurses, and midwives. We are here to acknowledge your compassion and dedication to public service.”

A visibly emotional Oluremi Tinubu described the chieftaincy title as a spiritual and deeply personal recognition. “It is not that I have not received titles in the past, but this one is special. I believe it is ordained by God,” she remarked. “This honour will remain etched in my heart.”

She also praised the people and environment of Enugu, calling the state “peaceful and warm,” and said her visit had left a lasting impression. “Your hospitality and peaceful nature speak volumes. I will always remember your people for this honour.”

The First Lady further noted that the title was not just for her alone, but a recognition shared with her husband, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and their entire family. “Today is a great day, not just for me, but for my husband and our children. I know they will be proud,” she said.

Mrs. Tinubu has in recent months embarked on a national outreach effort focusing on healthcare delivery, especially for women and children, and advocating for the empowerment of vulnerable groups. Her visit to Enugu forms part of that broader national agenda.

As she continues to engage with communities across Nigeria, her recognition in Enugu stands as a cultural symbol of unity and appreciation for national service beyond political lines.
