One person has been confirmed dead while two others sustained severe injuries in a ghastly motor accident that occurred Tuesday morning at the Idiroko axis of Ikorodu Road, Lagos.
The accident, which happened less than 24 hours after another crash claimed six lives on the Lekki-Epe Expressway, involved a fully loaded commercial Mazda bus with registration number LND 490 SD and a truck with registration number EKY 121 YJ.
General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, confirmed the incident, saying preliminary findings showed that the bus, while recklessly vying for right of way from Agric axis, rammed into the fast-moving truck.
“Unfortunately, one passenger who sat at the doorway of the bus was flung out and crushed under the rear tyres of the truck, leading to instant death.
“Two other passengers, a male and a female, were rescued with severe injuries and taken by Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) to Ikorodu General Hospital for treatment,” Bakare-Oki said.
He explained that the body of the deceased was later released to his family by police officers, while the two accidented vehicles were evacuated to restore free traffic flow in the area.
Bakare-Oki extended condolences to the family of the deceased and advised motorists to exercise caution, restraint and a sense of civic responsibility, especially along congested routes like the Ikorodu corridor.
He also urged the public to call LASTMA’s toll-free emergency line 080000527862 in case of traffic emergencies or related incidents.
