According to investigative Journalist Fisayo Soyombo,4,500,000kg of rice was smuggled into Nigeria through land borders in the last 24 hours.
According to a message on his X-handle, the rice was routed through Idi-Iroko into Sango and Owode by Adeyemi Habeeb Abdulganiy, the smuggler better known as ‘Abuga’, aided by customs officers.
Below is the message:
“Good evening,
@customsNG. As I type this, at least 1,500 cars containing rice are being moved from Idi-Iroko into Sango and Owode by Adeyemi Habeeb Abdulganiy, the smuggler better known as ‘Abuga’, aided by nobody else other than your men. That’s a minimum of 4,500,000kg of rice into the country through the backdoor. This is currently ongoing, just in case you want to pretend to be working and you’re contemplating halting it even if only for the optics.”
