OSOGBO – The Osun State House of Assembly on Monday passed the Electricity Bill, 2025, a crucial piece of legislation that will enable the state to establish its own Electricity Regulatory Commission.
The passage was confirmed in a statement signed by Olamide Tiamiyu, Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Osun State House of Assembly. The executive bill successfully underwent its third reading during a plenary session presided over by Speaker Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun.

The motion for the bill’s third reading was initiated by the House Majority Leader, Hon. Kofoworola Adewunmi, following the presentation of the report by the committee on water resources and energy, represented by Hon. Taofiq Olayiwola.
According to Tiamiyu, once signed into law, the bill will empower Osun State to create an Electricity Regulatory Commission, which will oversee all electricity-related matters within the state.

In addition to the Electricity Bill, the Assembly also approved amendments to several legal frameworks during the same plenary session. These include amendments to the Osun State Customary Courts of Appeal, Customary Court, and the Osun State District Customary Courts. The motions for these amendments received unanimous support via a voice vote conducted by the speaker, seconded by Hon. Tajudeen Adeyemi, Hon. Sikiru Bajepade, and Hon. Folorunsho Ogundare.
