The Delta State Commissioner of Police has ordered a thorough investigation into disturbing allegations that some police officers in Ekpan, Uvwie Local Government Area, were involved in the theft of a vehicle under suspicious circumstances.
The directive, issued Thursday morning, follows a wave of public outcry and widespread condemnation on social media platforms, where residents and civil rights advocates expressed concern over the integrity of law enforcement in the area.
According to sources, the incident, which allegedly occurred in Ekpan, has raised serious questions about internal discipline and accountability within the police force in Delta State.
A senior police officer at the command headquarters in Asaba, who spoke under anonymity, confirmed the CP’s instruction, noting that “the command is taking the matter seriously and has commenced internal procedures to uncover the facts.”
While official details of the incident remain sketchy, the Commissioner’s prompt response is seen as an effort to maintain public trust and reinforce discipline among officers.
“This is not who we are,” said a community youth leader in Ekpan, who called for transparency in the investigation. “People need to feel safe and not fear those meant to protect them.”
The Delta Police Command assured the public that any officer found culpable would face the full weight of disciplinary measures in accordance with the law.
More updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
