The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Jigawa State Chapter, has rejected the outcome of the just-concluded by-election in Babura/Garki Federal Constituency.
The rejection was contained in a statement issued to newsmen on Sunday, August 17, 2025, by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Umar Kyari Jitau Madamuwa.
According to the statement, the PDP reached its position after what it described as a careful study of the preparations, conduct, and execution of the electoral process, which eventually produced the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as winner.
The party alleged that the ruling APC deployed state power to compromise the exercise through massive vote buying, intimidation, and harassment of voters at various polling centres.
“PDP has observed how APC used state power and indulged heavily in vote buying, intimidation of voters as well as their harassment during the exercise,” the statement said.
The opposition party insisted that the outcome did not reflect the will of the people of the constituency, stressing that the election was far from being free and fair.
It, however, urged its supporters across the state to remain calm and law-abiding while assuring them that the party would explore every available legal and democratic means to reclaim what it called its stolen mandate.
“PDP is therefore calling on its entire supporters in the state as well as lovers of democracy to remain calm as it takes all necessary actions and measures to re-claim its stolen mandate which they gave to the party during last Saturday’s election,” the statement added.
