The Plateau State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed speculations that Governor Caleb Mutfwang is planning to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), assuring supporters that the party remains firmly united.
The assurance follows recent defections of high-profile PDP members such as Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to the APC, developments that sparked fears of further political shifts among PDP governors.
Speaking at a press briefing in Jos on Thursday, Plateau PDP Chairman, Chris Hassan, declared that the party in the state is strong and not shaken by the defections happening elsewhere.
“We have noted the isolated instances of defections by a few party members to other political parties. Let me urge all loyal party faithful to remain calm and resolute,” Hassan said.
He added, “Defections are not strange in Nigerian politics, but the PDP in Plateau remains solid. Our strength, credibility, and commitment to the people are intact.”
Reassuring members, Hassan maintained that the leadership of the party is working tirelessly to consolidate on existing gains and to continue offering a viable platform for the aspirations of Plateau people.
“Everything is under control, and better days lie ahead,” he concluded.
