The Kano State Police Command says it has arrested 105 suspects and recovered illicit drugs and weapons valued at over ₦82.7 million during crime-fighting operations across the state in September.
Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, disclosed this on Monday while briefing journalists at the Command Headquarters in Bompai, Kano.
According to him, the feat was achieved under “Operation Kukan Kura,” a special initiative introduced to implement the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for community-centered proactive crime prevention ahead of the festive season.
The CP explained that the operation has significantly reduced crime in Kano through community engagement, intelligence gathering, and the use of technology. “This Operation has yielded remarkable results in disrupting criminal networks and preventing potential threats,” he said.
Bakori revealed that operatives intercepted large consignments of illicit substances, including 603 packets of Tramadol containing 60,300 tablets valued at ₦60.3 million, and six cartons of Pregabalin capsules containing 44,850 pieces valued at ₦22.4 million. The exhibits, worth a total of ₦82,725,000, will be handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation and prosecution.
Other recoveries made during the month include three AK-47 rifles, three English pistols, three revolver pistols, one locally made AK-47 rifle, one dane gun, two locally made pistols, seven live rounds, and five empty shells. The police also recovered two motor vehicles, two tricycles, 13 motorcycles, three cows, assorted stolen properties, and dangerous weapons such as swords, cutlasses, knives, and axes.
Bakori said 105 suspects were arrested for various offences: 17 for armed robbery, eight for drug dealing, nine for motor vehicle theft, five for motorcycle theft, nine for general theft, and 57 for thuggery (popularly known as Yan Daba).
The CP commended the people of Kano for their cooperation and support to the police, stressing that community participation has been central to the command’s success.
“I assure you that the Kano State Police Command remains committed to its constitutional mandate of protecting lives and property, maintaining law and order, and preventing crimes,” he said.
He urged residents to continue to provide credible information to security agencies, promising that the police will sustain their momentum against criminal activities across the state.
