The Kogi State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old woman, Charity Williams, for unlawful possession of a pistol, hard drugs, and over N2 million cash at a hotel in Okene.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP William Aya, confirmed the arrest in a statement to journalists in Lokoja on Friday.
He said operatives of the Okene Division stormed the lodge following a tip-off and recovered one locally made Barretta pistol, six rounds of 9mm live ammunition, N2,047,300 cash, assorted hard drugs, an axe, and four mobile phones.
According to the police, the items were found in a room booked by one Christopher Kadiri, who is now on the run.
“The intelligence-led raid took place at Yuwander Lodge in Oguda village, Okene. During the search of a room linked to suspect Christopher Kadiri, our officers arrested a female occupant, Charity Williams, aged 23. The exhibits recovered include a pistol, ammunition, cash, drugs, and other items,” the statement read.
Aya added that efforts are ongoing to apprehend Kadiri, while investigations continue.
In a separate operation, operatives attached to the Ofu Division recovered a locally made barrel gun at Ogbakpedo village, a location notorious for kidnapping along the Itobe–Ayingba road.
The PPRO explained that officers acted on intelligence about suspected kidnappers hiding in the bush. On sighting the patrol team, the suspects fled, but a search of the area led to the recovery of the gun, a cutlass, and a mobile phone.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, commended the officers for their swift response and restated the command’s commitment to tackling criminality across Kogi State.
