By Peter Onyekachukwu

The Yobe State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man, Usman Ahmed, of Abba Ibrahim Estate in Damaturu, for allegedly assaulting a female health worker at the Specialist Hospital Damaturu.

Spokesman of the Command, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, said in a statement on Sunday that the suspect used a neem stick to attack the health worker after a dispute over medical attention.

According to him, “The suspect was arrested following a distress call from the hospital’s security personnel and taken to the ‘C’ Divisional Police headquarters.”

The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Emmanuel Ado, condemned the act, saying, “We will impose heavier penalties on anyone found guilty. People must stop taking the law into their own hands.”

He advised the community to always inform authorities about violent incidents or unprofessional conduct, urging them to encourage peaceful resolution of disputes while respecting and protecting the rights of health workers.

The CP further assured that the Command will continue to arrest and prosecute individuals engaging in violent behavior.
