The Delta State Police Command has arrested a murder suspect in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area, and dismantled a suspected cult and armed robbery syndicate in Warri, recovering a locally made gun, cartridges, and other weapons.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, in a statement on Thursday, said the operations followed intelligence-led policing strategies aimed at curbing violent crimes and cult-related activities across the state.
According to him, operatives attached to Agbor Division arrested a 25-year-old suspect, Musa Buhari, over the abduction and murder of a commercial motorcyclist, Friday Orumgbe, aged 53, who was reported missing on October 7, 2025.
He said investigations revealed that the suspect and an accomplice, Manu Usman (now at large), had lured the victim into a bush under the guise of being passengers, attacked him with a hoe, and made away with his motorcycle and phone.
“Following the suspect’s confession, the decomposed corpse of the victim was recovered from a bush along Power Line near Oki, Agbor,” Edafe said, adding that the remains were identified by family members and deposited at the Central Hospital Mortuary, Agbor, for autopsy.
He noted that the suspect is in custody while efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing accomplice.
In a separate operation, operatives of ‘B’ Division, Warri, acting on the directive of DPO CSP Ya’u Kangiwa, intercepted a gold-coloured Lexus 350 SUV with two occupants—Christian Agbajor Akpos, 33, and Sophia Thomas, 26—during a night patrol around the Ubeji community.
The police said the suspects were unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for their movement at about 3:00 a.m., prompting a search that led to the recovery of one locally made cut-to-size double-barrel gun, a battle axe, one live cartridge, and one expended cartridge.
Preliminary investigation, according to Edafe, revealed that Akpos is a member of the MAPHITE confraternity and the Neo-Black Movement (NBM). He reportedly confessed that the firearm was supplied by one “Mr. Shimaye,” identified as the Deputy Chairman of Ubeji community.
“The suspects are currently in custody while efforts are ongoing to track down other members of the gang and recover more arms,” the statement added.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, commended the operatives for their swift response and professionalism, assuring residents of the Command’s commitment to sustaining intelligence-led policing to rid the state of crime.
