The Delta State Police Command has recorded another major breakthrough in its sustained fight against crime, with the arrest of a notorious drug dealer and the interception of 400 rounds of live cartridges in separate operations across the state.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, commended operatives for their proactive intelligence-led policing that continues to yield positive results in curbing criminal activities.

According to the statement, on October 16, 2025, at about 12:00 hours, operatives attached to the ‘C’ Division, Asaba, led by CSP Ogbe Emmanuel, intercepted a Toyota Hiace Hummer bus with registration number NGK 16 XB during a stop-and-search operation at the Head Bridge, Asaba.

The driver, identified as Ozoemenam Sylvanus, appeared uneasy during questioning, prompting the officers to conduct a detailed search of the vehicle. Their vigilance paid off when 400 rounds of live cartridges were discovered carefully concealed in the bus.

The suspect initially claimed the items were padlocks but was left speechless when the parcels were opened, revealing the ammunition. He was immediately arrested, and the cartridges recovered.

The Command said investigations are ongoing to trace the source of the ammunition and the criminal network behind its movement to Edo State.

In another operation, police operatives from the Orerokpe Division, acting on credible intelligence, arrested 37-year-old Onos Afokoghene, a notorious drug dealer known for distributing hard drugs across Warri and nearby communities.

The operation, which took place on October 10, 2025, at about 8:45 p.m., was led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Paul Oboware, to a hotspot in Jeddo Community, where the suspect and other hoodlums were reportedly selling and consuming drugs.

Although some suspects attempted to flee, Afokoghene was apprehended after a brief chase. A search of the area uncovered a large haul of illicit substances, including 3kg of Canadian Loud, 10kg of Indian Hemp, 24 litres of “monkey tail” (weed soaked in dry gin), several sachets of Tramadol, and two POS machines suspected to be used for drug transactions.

SP Edafe stated that the suspect is in custody while investigations continue to identify his network of distributors and buyers.

Commissioner Abaniwonda assured residents that the Command remains resolute in ensuring safety across the state and urged the public to continue providing credible information that would assist in fighting crime.
