Police Officer Killed in Attack on DPO’s Residence in Jigawa

By Peter Onyekachukwu

Growing concerns over rising assaults on security personnel in Northern Nigeria deepened on Tuesday as the Jigawa State Police Command confirmed the death of a police officer attacked while on duty in Aujara, Jahun Local Government Area.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shiisu Lawan Adam, appealed to residents to remain calm and support the command with credible information that could help track down the assailants. He noted that the incident was a stark reminder of the dangers officers face daily while protecting communities.

Following the attack, the police immediately intensified patrols and surveillance around Aujara and neighbouring communities to forestall any further threats and reassure residents of their safety.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Dahiru Muhammad, described the attack as a “dastardly act,” expressing deep condolences to the family, colleagues, and friends of the fallen officer. He vowed that the command would pursue a thorough and diligent investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Tragically, the officer died on November 26, 2025, a day after sustaining life-threatening wounds during the assault. Medical personnel battled to save his life, but he succumbed to his injuries.

He was one of two officers critically injured while attempting to fend off armed men who stormed the residence of the Divisional Police Officer of Aujara Division during the early hours.

The officers on guard duty had engaged the attackers in a fierce exchange as they tried to repel the sudden onslaught.

According to the police command, the attack occurred around 4:00 a.m. on November 25, 2025, when unidentified gunmen launched a violent assault on the DPO’s residence.

The incident has once again highlighted the increasing vulnerability of frontline officers, who continue to face growing threats from armed groups targeting security formations across the region.
