DELTA: Police operatives in Delta State have arrested the youth president of Ekpan community, Victor Edavwe, for illegal possession of an AK-47 rifle and 44 rounds of ammunition.

The state police public relations officer PPRO, SP Bright Edafe, in a statement on Thursday afternoon, disclosed that the arrest, which took place on March 15, 2025, followed intelligence reports that Edavwe had recently acquired the firearm.

According to the police, “The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ekpan Police Station, CSP Aliyu Shaba, led a team to Shrine Street, where Edavwe was apprehended.

“During interrogation, Edavwe provided information that led officers to the residence of one Efe, also known as “Eteyomo.” A search of the premises uncovered an AK-47 rifle, a single-barrel gun, three cutlasses, two daggers, and 44 rounds of live ammunition hidden in the ceiling.

“In a separate operation on March 16, police officers arrested four suspected criminals linked to armed robbery and kidnapping in the Jeddo area of Okpe Local Government Area of the state.

“The suspects, identified as Endurance Oghoghome, Blessing Oghoghome, Marvellous Dissy, and Jonas Orogho, were caught after an intelligence-led raid on their hideout.

“During the operation, the police recovered an English pump-action shotgun, two locally made single-barrel guns, a fabricated Beretta pistol, a cut-to-size gun, and a live cartridge”.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, commended the officers for their swift action. He also noted that residents of Jeddo had expressed relief over the arrests.

“The command remains committed to ensuring the safety of citizens. Criminal elements will have no hiding place in Delta State,” Abaniwonda said.

The suspects are currently in police custody, and investigations are ongoing.
