Political Realignment in Delta: Uduaghan Returns to APC With Fresh Promises

Former Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Ewetan Uduaghan, has rejoined the All Progressives Congress (APC) in a move that could reshape the political equation ahead of future elections in the oil-rich South-South region.

Uduaghan, a two-term governor who left the APC shortly before the 2023 general elections, was formally re-registered at his residence in Warri GRA, where he received his new party membership card. The event, which drew key APC stakeholders from Warri North Local Government Area, marks what many political observers describe as a strategic comeback aimed at reinvigorating the party’s strength in Delta State.

Speaking after receiving his membership card, Uduaghan expressed gratitude for the warm reception and pledged to work with party leaders to reposition the APC across Delta. “I am back to contribute meaningfully to the growth of our party and support efforts toward good governance in our dear state,” he said. “This is not just about politics, but about development and unity.”

He emphasized a need for collaboration, especially in Warri North, to strengthen the APC’s grassroots structure and reestablish trust among constituents.

Uduaghan’s political journey has seen him oscillate between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the APC. His return is not only symbolic but also strategic, given his enduring influence in Delta politics and his past senatorial ambition under the APC in 2019.

Adding to the significance of the occasion, his daughter, Orode Uduaghan, the current Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Community Support Services, and Child Development in Delta State, also received her APC membership card—signaling what appears to be a family-wide political repositioning.

The event was witnessed by notable party figures, including Comrade Alero Naomi Tenumah, former Delta South Women Leader; Mr. George Ino, APC Chairman in Abigborodo Ward 6; and Hon. Misan Ukubeyinje, former Commissioner for Agriculture.

Comrade Tenumah described Uduaghan’s return as “a major boost” to the party, adding that he didn’t come alone. “He has returned with his people, and that sends a clear message. We are excited and ready to work with him to expand our structures ahead of the next political season.”

Tenumah also called on both returning and new members to fully commit to the APC’s ideals and rally behind President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E Agenda.

As the APC strategizes for future elections in Delta and beyond, Uduaghan’s return may signal a deeper shift in the political currents of the Niger Delta.
