Political Witch Hunt? Ousted Senator Abbo Denies Rape Allegation, Blames ‘Detractors’

Embattled former Senator Ishaku Elisha Abbo has fiercely denied fresh allegations of raping a 13-year-old schoolgirl and insists reports of his arrest by the Police are false, instead claiming the entire scandal is a “mischievous” plot by political enemies.

Senator Abbo, who represented Adamawa North until his removal earlier this year, refuted the accusations on Friday, specifically denying media reports that he was in Police FCID custody over the alleged assault which reportedly occurred at his Abuja residence on June 29, 2025.

The N5 Million ‘Smear Campaign’

In a counter-claim that frames the controversy as political blackmail, the former lawmaker admitted to a recent interaction with the Police but claimed he initiated it to report a “desperate female money monger” who was demanding ₦5 million.

Abbo told journalists that he reported the individual to the FCID and was later invited for questioning alongside her, only to be ambushed by completely different stories weeks later. He condemned the rape report as the “handiwork of my political detractors… an orchestrated smear campaign to disturb my peace.”

Political Meddling Alleged

The family of the alleged victim has further complicated the narrative, claiming that Senator Abbo tried to silence them with payments to the girl’s father.

Crucially, the family also alleged that Senator Aishatu Binani, the 2023 Adamawa governorship candidate, visited them to discourage them from pursuing the case. This claim ties the latest scandal directly into the state’s complex political landscape, suggesting high-level political influence in the attempt to cover up the allegations.

The controversy is the latest in a string of legal and ethical issues that have shadowed Abbo’s political career, including the infamous 2019 viral video that showed him assaulting a woman in an Abuja shop.
