President Bola Tinubu arrived in Lagos on Tuesday to preside over the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). His official aircraft, Nigeria Air Force 1, touched down at Murtala Muhammed Airport’s presidential wing at 4:15 pm, where he was warmly received by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other senior officials.
The landmark event, marking five decades of regional integration, will culminate on Wednesday at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA) and Eko Hotels and Suites. President Tinubu will host fellow ECOWAS Heads of State and Government in a ceremony that includes the symbolic re-enactment of the 1975 ECOWAS founding declaration. Retired General Yakubu Gowon, the only surviving signatory, will attend and deliver a keynote address.
Beyond the ECOWAS festivities, President Tinubu is set to inaugurate several key infrastructure projects in Lagos on Saturday. These include Section I of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, the Lekki Deep Sea Port Tax Credit Concrete Road, and the 7th Axial Road, along with the flag-off of Section II of the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway. He will also virtually commission major road projects in Kano and other northern states, signaling a renewed focus on national connectivity.
The President will observe Eid-el-Kabir prayers at the State House, Dodan Barracks, before returning to Abuja, wrapping up a visit that blends regional diplomacy with critical national development.
