Professional Boxer Allegedly Kills Carpenter Over Burst Football in Ikorodu

A professional boxer, identified simply as Bintin, has been arrested after he allegedly punched a carpenter, known only as Yellow, to death following a heated argument over a burst football in the Adamo area of Ikorodu, Lagos State. The tragic incident occurred on Saturday.

The confrontation began after the deceased carpenter, recognized in the community for his light complexion, reportedly damaged a football belonging to the boxer’s son.

According to eyewitnesses, the boxer’s wife called her husband, who was initially away, to report the incident. Upon returning, Bintin confronted Yellow and physically assaulted him. The community leader (Baale) intervened and instructed the carpenter to replace the damaged ball.

However, as the carpenter left to buy a new ball, the still-enraged boxer allegedly pursued him and delivered a single, heavy punch to Yellow’s forehead. The carpenter collapsed instantly and was rushed to Agbowa General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead.

Residents described the suspect as “arrogant” with a history of violent behavior in the area.

Following the incident, the boxer reportedly turned himself in at the Imota police station, where he is currently detained.

The Lagos State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the matter had been reported and assured the public that the suspect remains in custody, dismissing rumors of his release.

SP Adebisi stated that the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for proper investigation, as Divisional Police Officers lack the authority to release a murder suspect.

The local Baale confirmed that the deceased will be buried later today according to Islamic rites and that calm has returned to the community.
