PSC to Nigerians: Be the Watchdog to Ensure Merit in Police Force

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced a new whistleblowing policy aimed squarely at eliminating malpractice, corruption, and fraud in the recruitment processes of the Nigeria Police Force.

The policy, disclosed on Wednesday by PSC spokesman Ikechukwu Ani, is designed to establish a secure and transparent channel for the public to report malfeasance, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda on national security and anti-corruption.

Nigerians are now encouraged to report a wide range of corruption and fraud observed during the enlistment process. Reportable offenses include the solicitation or acceptance of cash, gifts, or favors in exchange for recruitment slots or preferential treatment. Other offenses are the falsification or manipulation of test results (written, physical, or medical), altering a candidate’s age, certificates, or state of origin with the knowledge of officials, and the sexual harassment or extortion of candidates.

The PSC also wants citizens to report ghost candidates or impersonation during exams or screenings. Ani stated that the goal is “to uphold the principles of good governance and strengthen national security by ensuring only the most qualified and upright candidates are enlisted.” The PSC insists that this policy empowers every citizen to act as a watchdog against unethical influence.

The PSC assured that all reports will be treated with utmost confidentiality, and whistleblowers will be protected from victimization or retaliation in line with Nigerian laws. Individuals are advised to provide as much detail as possible.

Reports can be made anonymously, but contact information may aid further investigation. Dedicated phone lines for complaints are 08065265651, 08059544355, 09159329404, and 08035866677.

Reports can also be sent via email to info@psc.gov.ng, or through the PSC’s online platforms: www.psc.gov.ng, X: @PSCNigeria, and Facebook: @PSCNigeria. The Commission concluded by urging Nigerians, stating: “Your courage can make the difference” in building a better, more professional Police Force.
