Local government chairmen and councillors in Rivers State have formally endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election.

The declaration was made during a gathering of all 23 LG chairmen, their deputies, and councillors at the Obio/Akpor LGA Conference Hall.

Speaking at the event, Ikwerre LGA Chairman, Charles Wobodo, said the decision was informed by what he described as the president’s “visible impact” on national development and his “special consideration” for Rivers State.

Wobodo cited infrastructural expansion, human-capacity development, and intervention programmes launched after the removal of fuel subsidy as key reasons for backing Tinubu.

He also praised the appointment of an Ikwerre indigene, Prof. Chinedu Mmom, as Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Environment and Technology in Ogoniland.

ALGON State Chairman and Port Harcourt City Council boss, Awell Ihunda, applauded Tinubu for naming several Rivers State natives to strategic federal roles.

He listed some of the appointees as FCT Minister Nyesom Wike; Boma Iyaye of the NDDC; Dr Des George-Kelly of the Border Communities Development Agency; Flag Amachree of the Office of the National Security Adviser; and Chief Tony Okocha on the NDDC Board.

Others include Chukwuemeka Aaron of the Federal Character Commission and Chief Onueze Okocha, SAN, recently appointed ambassador-designate.

ALGON Secretary and Eleme LGA Chairman, Obarilomate Ollor, said the president’s policies had brought direct benefits to Eleme through federal appointments and major infrastructural works.

He highlighted the reconstruction of the Eleme axis of the East–West Road and ongoing plans to modernise the Rivers, Onne and Calabar ports.

The motion for endorsement was moved by Emuoha LGA Chairman, Dr Chidi Lloyd, and seconded by Khana LGA Chairman, Dr Thomas Bariere.

With a unanimous voice vote, Rivers ALGON adopted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as its preferred candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
