Rivers Crisis: APC Defends Emergency Rule, Blames Fubara for Political Instability

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has endorsed President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, insisting that Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s actions made it inevitable.

APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, accused Fubara of orchestrating the crisis that led to the emergency rule, citing his demolition of the Rivers State House of Assembly as a direct assault on democracy.

“Governor Siminalayi Fubara is the architect of the instability in Rivers State. His decision to demolish the House of Assembly was not just reckless but an outright dismantling of the state’s democratic structure,” Morka stated.

According to him, Fubara’s unilateral governance without a functioning legislature invalidated his authority and left the state without a legitimate government.

“There cannot be a governor without a legislature and judiciary. All three arms of government must function together. As the Supreme Court confirmed, there was no government in the state from the moment Fubara destroyed the legislative arm,” he added.

Morka maintained that President Tinubu had no choice but to act decisively to restore governance and prevent a total breakdown of law and order.

“The safety and well-being of Rivers people come first. The state of emergency is a constitutionally backed intervention to protect lives and extend governance to the people. Once again, President Tinubu has shown courage in addressing a political crisis before it spirals out of control,” he said.

The development has sparked intense political debate, with Fubara’s supporters arguing that the emergency rule is a strategic move to weaken his administration, while APC maintains it is a necessary step to uphold constitutional order in the state.
