Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has reassured residents of his unwavering commitment to peace and good governance despite the ongoing political crisis in the state.
In a statement addressing Rivers people, Fubara emphasized that his administration remains focused on protecting lives and property, maintaining security, and advancing the state’s development.
“Since assuming office, my actions have been guided by my constitutional oath and a deep sense of duty. Even in the face of political impasse, we have upheld constitutional order and the rule of law,” the governor said.
Fubara recalled that following President Bola Tinubu’s intervention, his administration implemented the agreed terms in good faith, including reinstating commissioners who had earlier resigned. Additionally, he noted that the Supreme Court’s judgment was promptly executed to restore normalcy in the state.
“These steps were taken not for personal gain but to foster peace, unity, and stability in our dear state. Unfortunately, at every turn, the Rivers State House of Assembly has frustrated our efforts, making genuine peace and progress difficult,” he lamented.
Despite the political wrangling, Fubara assured that governance had not been disrupted. He highlighted that salaries were being paid, projects were ongoing, and Rivers State remained secure.
The governor called on residents to remain law-abiding, promising that his administration would continue to engage relevant institutions to strengthen democracy and ensure the state’s progress.
“We are a resilient people, and we will face this situation with wisdom, patience, and unwavering faith in the democratic process,” he added.
The crisis in Rivers State stems from a prolonged standoff between the governor and the state assembly, raising concerns about the stability of governance in the oil-rich state.
