Rivers Government Slams Rumors, No Summons Issued to Fubara or Deputy.

The Rivers State Government has firmly denied widespread reports claiming that suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his Deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu, were summoned by the state’s Sole Administrator, Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas. In a strong rebuttal issued Wednesday, the government described the claims as not only false but malicious and intentionally crafted to mislead the public and spark unnecessary tension.

According to a statement released by Dede Friday, Permanent Secretary of the Special Services Bureau in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, the alleged summons being circulated on social media is a complete fabrication.

The statement specifically pointed to a fake announcement purporting that Fubara and Odu were called to a meeting at the Government House scheduled for Friday, April 18, 2025. The government labeled the claim as fraudulent, emphasizing that it did not originate from any legitimate or official channel.

In a clear message to the public, the Rivers State Government urged residents to ignore such misinformation and warned against spreading unverified reports, which it said are the handiwork of individuals bent on destabilizing the state. It called on citizens and media outlets alike to rely solely on official communication platforms, including the government’s website, verified social media accounts, and authorized traditional media outlets, to avoid falling prey to rumors and political mischief.

Reiterating its commitment to transparency and order, the statement urged everyone to stay alert, cross-check information, and stand firm against the spread of chaos fueled by fake news.
