Royal Tribute: Olu of Warri Sends Condolences to Former Senate Whip Over Wife’s Death

The Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, has extended condolences to former Senate Chief Whip, Sir Rowland Owie, following the death of his wife, Lady Helen Owie.

A delegation led by top Warri chiefs, including Chief Yahya Pessu, Chief Brown Mene, and Chief Lawrence Wilbert, visited Owie at his Benin City residence to deliver the monarch’s message of sympathy.

Chief Mene, speaking on behalf of the Olu, described Lady Owie as a woman of grace whose life brought comfort and unity to her family and community. He noted that while her passing is painful, her legacy remains a source of strength.

In response, Sir Owie described his wife as a steadfast partner, revealing that her support was instrumental in securing political backing from late Pa Alfred Rewane for the successful 1979 governorship campaign of Prof. Ambrose Alli under the UPN.

“She stood by me in all things—politically and personally. Her memory will continue to inspire,” Owie said.

The visit highlighted the Olu’s commitment to standing with citizens in moments of personal loss, fostering unity and compassion.
