DELTA: One of the recently dismissed Commissioners for Rural and Community Development in Kano State, Abbas Sani Abbas, has dumped the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Abbas, who was sacked last month by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in a major cabinet reshuffle that also saw the removal of the Secretary to the State Government and the Chief of Staff, made his defection official during a visit to the Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, in Kano.
Senator Barau announced Abbas’s defection on his verified social media handle on Friday night.
“Joined by the Chairman of our party in Kano State, Prince Abdullahi Abbas (Ɗan Sarki, Jikan Sarki), and other party leaders, we proudly embraced Hon. Abbas, a dedicated grassroots mobilizer, to our party,” Barau stated.
He assured Abbas of the party’s full support, saying, “Together, we will continue to promote the values of good governance, inclusivity, and service to humanity.”
Though Abbas did not give details about his reason for leaving the NNPP, political analysts believe it is linked to dissatisfaction with the leadership style of Governor Yusuf and the recent cabinet shake-up that affected key officials.
Speaking on his defection, a source close to Abbas said, “He felt sidelined in the NNPP after his removal, and he believes the APC offers a better platform for his political aspirations.”
With this defection, political watchers say the APC in Kano is gaining momentum ahead of the next elections.
