Senate Moves to Pass Key Tax Reform Bills, Convenes National Security Summit.

Abuja – The Nigerian Senate has postponed the passage of four landmark tax reform bills to Wednesday, allowing for more detailed scrutiny and debate. The bills—Nigerian Tax Bill, Tax Administration Bill, Revenue Tax Board Bill, and the Nigerian Revenue Service Establishment Bill—are part of President Bola Tinubu’s comprehensive fiscal reform agenda aimed at strengthening revenue generation and modernizing the nation’s tax system.

Originally forwarded to the National Assembly six months ago, the delay in the Senate’s approval had drawn public concern, especially following the House of Representatives’ passage of the bills two weeks ago.

In a related move, the Senate has also resolved to hold a two-day National Security Summit in Abuja, following recent deadly attacks in Plateau, Benue, and Zamfara States. The motion, sponsored by Senator Jimoh Ibrahim (Ondo South), was adopted during Tuesday’s plenary.

Senator Ibrahim highlighted global and domestic factors contributing to insecurity, urging the federal government to adopt innovative, economically conscious security strategies. The summit will bring together delegates from federal, state, and local governments, along with traditional institutions and stakeholders from across the country.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio confirmed the setup of an ad-hoc committee to coordinate the summit and emphasized the Senate’s commitment to national security and economic transformation..
