Senator Natasha Suspension Continues Amid Legal Dispute

The Nigerian National Assembly has prevented Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan from returning to her seat after she claimed her six-month suspension had ended. The Senator, who represents Kogi Central, was suspended on March 6, 2025, following a reported clash with Senate President Godswill Akpabio over seating arrangements during a plenary session.

Despite her notification to the Assembly leadership of her intent to resume on September 4, 2025, she was informed by the Acting Clerk, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, that her suspension is still active. This is because the matter is considered sub judice, meaning it is still under legal consideration.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan had challenged her suspension in the Federal High Court, which ruled in favor of the Senate. She has since appealed the decision. The National Assembly has stated that no administrative action can be taken regarding her return until the Court of Appeal delivers its judgment. The Assembly’s letter assured her she would be officially informed of the final decision once the case is resolved.
