The Kogi State Police Command has begun an investigation into the early-morning attack on the family home of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan in Obeiba-Ihima, Okehi Local Government Area of the state.

The incident has sparked concerns among her supporters, with many calling on the police to ensure the safety of public officials and their families across the state.

The incident, which occurred around 1:00 am on April 16, involved three armed men reportedly wielding cutlasses. The attackers allegedly shattered window panes while attempting to break into the building before fleeing after an alarm was raised.

Police authorities confirmed the development in a statement issued in Lokoja by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP William Aya.

“Following a distress call received from Yakubu Ovanja, an aide to Senator Natasha, officers from the Okehi Division were swiftly deployed to the scene for an on-the-spot assessment,” the statement said. “They met a young man, Michael Akpoti, in the building who explained how the hoodlums tried to gain access before he raised the alarm.”

The Commissioner of Police has directed the Deputy Commissioner in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department to commence a discreet investigation with the aim of uncovering the motive behind the attack and bringing the perpetrators to justice.

Reacting to the attack, Senator Natasha said the attempt was clearly targeted.

“I believe they thought I was inside the house at the time. No one was hurt. A formal report was made immediately to the local police,” she said.
