Seplat–NLNG Deal to Boost Nigeria’s Gas Supply by 12%

Nigeria’s LNG production is set to receive a significant boost following a preliminary gas supply agreement between Seplat Energy and Nigeria LNG (NLNG), potentially increasing gas feedstock by over 12%.

Seplat, which recently acquired Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited (MPNU), plans to deliver more than 150,000 metric tonnes of gas monthly to NLNG’s Bonny Island plant. The agreement marks only the second time NLNG will source gas from a third party.

Effiong Okon, Managing Director of Seplat’s ANOH Gas Processing Company, in an interview disclosed that gas deliveries could begin in Q3 2025, pending final commercial and technical arrangements.

The move comes as NLNG grapples with feedstock shortages caused by pipeline vandalism and crude theft. Analysts say the deal is mutually beneficial — enabling Seplat to monetize gas from its $700 million ANOH plant and helping NLNG stabilize output.

In a related development, Renaissance Africa Energy has shut its Okordia–Rumuekpe pipeline in Rivers State following an oil spill believed to be caused by third-party interference. A joint investigation is underway.
