A shocking case of intimate partner violence has emerged from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where a 43-year-old woman identified as Gift allegedly bit off the tip of her lover’s penis during a heated altercation over sex.
The incident, which occurred in the Mile 3 axis of Diobu on Bishop Okoye Street, sparked panic among residents on Thursday when the man’s cries for help drew a crowd.
According to eyewitnesses, the confrontation began when the man, identified as Sunday, demanded sex. Gift reportedly declined, accusing him of relying on performance-enhancing drugs that made their sessions unbearably long.
“He got upset when she refused him,” said a resident who witnessed the drama but asked not to be named. “That led to a fight, and in the process, she bit off the cap of his manhood. People rushed in after hearing the loud scream.”
The assault left Sunday severely injured and bleeding. Neighbours attempted to intervene, with some reportedly trying to attack the woman before officers from the Nkpolu Police Division arrived and rescued her.
The police have since taken Gift into custody, while the victim was rushed to a hospital for urgent medical treatment.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Superintendent Grace Iringe-Koko, said investigations have commenced.
“Yes, I can confirm the incident. The woman, aged 43, has been arrested and taken into custody. The matter is being investigated,” she stated.
The case has reignited public concern over the rising cases of domestic violence and the dangerous dynamics that sometimes play out in intimate relationships. Many residents are calling for psychological evaluations for both parties and legal consequences to deter future occurrences.
