BAUCHI: Barely two months after leading the impeachment of the Shira Local Government Council Chairman and his deputy, the Acting Chairman, Alhaji Wali Adamu, has died, leaving the Bauchi political circle in mourning.

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State expressed deep sorrow over the sudden demise of Alhaji Adamu, who passed away on Sunday at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Azare after a brief illness. The late chairman, also known by his traditional title Chigarin Tumfafi, was widely regarded as a grassroots leader and a firm advocate of accountability.

In a statement issued by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, the state government confirmed the death, describing it as a great loss to Shira Local Government and the state at large.

“The late Alhaji Wali Adamu was a dedicated and principled leader who served his people with integrity. His passing is not only shocking but deeply painful to us all,” Governor Mohammed was quoted as saying.

The governor extended his condolences to the bereaved family, the Katagum Emirate Council, and the entire people of Bauchi State, urging citizens to pray for the repose of his soul.

The late chairman had recently made headlines when, on March 2, 2025, he led a group of councillors in the impeachment of the then Chairman, Hon. Abdullahi Beli, and his deputy, Adamu Bamaraya, over alleged mismanagement of funds and incompetence.

Political observers say his death may trigger renewed conversations around the leadership crisis in Shira Local Government. In the meantime, the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC) has fixed May 24, 2025, for a by-election to fill the positions of the impeached chairman and deputy.

“We have lost a true reformer,” said a political aide in Shira. “Alhaji Wali Adamu stood for transparency and he paid the price by putting his people first. His legacy will not be forgotten.”

As Shira prepares for another political transition, the late chairman’s absence is already being felt across the local government he strived to transform.
