As the race for the 2025 Anambra governorship election gathers steam, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has cleared the state governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, to contest in today’s party primaries, setting the stage for his anticipated re-election bid.
Governor Soludo, who is seeking a second term in office, was the first to be screened and certified fit by the party’s National Working Committee, led by National Chairman Sly Ezeokenwa. The party described the process as seamless, transparent, and devoid of controversy.
Speaking to reporters, APGA’s National Publicity Secretary, Mazi Ejimofor Opara, revealed that over 3,260 delegates from across the state will participate in the primary election, which he said will be a landmark event in APGA’s history.
“Governor Soludo picked his nomination and expression of interest forms quietly in Abuja. His screening was successful, and he is now fully cleared to participate in the primaries,” Opara stated.
He hailed the screening process as a reflection of the party’s commitment to democratic principles and internal discipline. “The party leadership ensured that the process was peaceful, inclusive and transparent. It’s a model of how internal democracy should work.”
Governor Soludo’s re-election bid has gained momentum in recent months, with endorsements pouring in from political blocs, civil society groups, and traditional institutions who have praised his developmental strides in infrastructure, education, technology, and economic reform.
Observers say Soludo’s emergence as the first incumbent APGA governor to seek re-election under a unified party platform signals a consolidation of the party’s influence in Anambra State.
Opara maintained that APGA is confident in its leadership model and will continue to provide purposeful governance in the state. “With our solutions-driven approach and emphasis on people-first leadership, we are confident that APGA will continue to lead Anambra towards sustainable progress,” he added.
The APGA primary marks the beginning of what is expected to be a heated political season in Anambra, as parties prepare to test their strength ahead of the November governorship poll.
