ABUJA – Prominent activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has launched a scathing broadside against a range of Nigeria’s political heavyweights, unequivocally distancing himself from their alleged past actions. Taking to his X handle (formerly Twitter), Sowore’s fiery statement comes amidst ongoing efforts to forge a new political coalition aimed at challenging the current administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a series of strong declarations, Sowore, known for his unsparing criticism, highlighted his perceived moral distance from various figures. He asserted, “I did not join Bola Ahmed Tinubu in distributing heroin and cocaine in Chicago.”
His accusations continued, targeting other leading personalities. Sowore claimed he “did not join Atiku Abubakar in looting the Nigerian Customs dry.” He further distanced himself from Senator David Mark, stating he did not join him “when he stole funds meant to fix our telephones and later helped to crush our democratic hopes on June 12.”
Sowore’s critique also extended to former officials of the immediate past administration. He alleged, “I did not join Abubakar Malami, SAN, in violating human rights and looting the treasury under Muhammadu Buhari’s watch.” He also accused former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, stating, “I did not join Nasir El-Rufai in massacring Shiites and fueling religious genocide in Southern Kaduna.”
His wide-ranging condemnation included an unspecified figure at the Tin Can Ports, claiming he did not join him “while he cleared goods for Sani Abacha when the same Abacha that was dismantling Nigeria brick by brick.” He also referenced historical figures, declaring, “I did not join Sule Lamido and the SDP traitors who sold out MKO Abiola and the will of the Nigerian people during June 12 struggle.”
Concluding his litany of disassociations, Sowore attacked former Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, stating, “I did not join Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi while he gambled away Rivers State funds and abandoned the mini-rail project already paid for.” He vehemently underscored his personal integrity, adding, “I have never joined an armed robbery gang. I have never pledged allegiance to any cult gang—no matter how popular, powerful, or fanciful.”
Sowore declared his sole allegiance “to the oppressed, the disenfranchised, the cheated, the silenced.” He affirmed his readiness to “join only those ready and willing to end this national nightmare created by these characters listed above!”
His statement concluded with a powerful call to action, declaring, “Let it be known: I stand with a vanguard of justice. A coalition of truth. A revolutionary team to restore the dignity of the Nigerian people and Africans. Nigeria must be free from these evil doers.”
Sowore’s public broadside is significant, coming at a time when various political factions are reportedly exploring alliances to form a formidable opposition bloc against President Tinubu’s administration. His detailed accusations, while yet to be formally substantiated, send a clear message about the criteria he believes any credible coalition must meet.
