A Plateau State High Court has condemned Odey Emmanuel, a final‑year student of Government Science Technical College, Bukuru, to death by hanging for murdering his teacher, Job Dashe.
Justice S. J. Bakfur ruled that prosecutors, led by Plateau Attorney‑General Philemon Daffi, proved culpable homicide beyond reasonable doubt under the state Penal Code.
Evidence showed that on 30 July 2022, Dashe caught Emmanuel taking double food rations during meal service. Witnesses said the student swore, “I must hurt this teacher,” then drew a knife and stabbed Dashe in the chest as classmates cheered. Staff rushed the victim to Mercy Seat Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Five witnesses including teachers, police and medics corroborated the attack. The defence offered no convincing rebuttal.
Calling the assault “premeditated, brutal and a danger to society,” Justice Bakfur convicted Emmanuel and imposed the mandatory death penalty.
