Temporary Closure of PTI Roundabout: Delta Authorities Announce Traffic Disruptions for Power Line Relocation

By Peter Onyekachukwu

Motorists and residents in Effurun, Delta State, have been advised to brace up for temporary traffic disruptions around the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) roundabout due to scheduled work on high-voltage power lines.

In a notice issued by project coordinator Thomas Haug, the relocation of 330 KV high-voltage cables will necessitate intermittent road closures between May 25 and June 1, 2025, affecting PTI–Airport Road and the Warri–Effurun expressway.

The scheduled works will be carried out in two phases. The first phase will begin on Sunday, May 25, and run through Tuesday, May 27. The second phase will take place from Friday, May 30, to Sunday, June 1. During these periods, traffic lanes will be closed and reopened every 15 to 20 minutes to ensure the safe relocation of the cables.

According to Haug, “We understand the inconvenience this may cause to road users, but these measures are necessary to carry out the relocation safely and efficiently. Our teams will ensure that the traffic is managed in a way that minimises delays as much as possible.”

He further assured the public that necessary safety precautions are in place and urged all commuters to comply with traffic diversions and cooperate with officials on the ground.

Many residents expressed concern about the disruption, particularly on weekdays when the roads experience heavy usage. “This road is a major access route for thousands of commuters. I just hope they stick to the timeline and complete it quickly,” said Daniel Okoro, a commercial driver who plies the PTI–Airport Road daily.

The Delta State Traffic Management Agency (DESTMA) is expected to deploy personnel to the affected areas to help manage the flow of vehicles and minimise gridlock.

Road users are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and explore alternative routes where possible.
