DELTA: The return of Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has sparked controversy, with party leaders in Ethiope East rejecting his comeback and alleging that he may be working to undermine the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a statement signed by Chief Barr. G. S Avwunudiogba, Chairman of the Ethiope East APC Elders and Leaders Forum, and other key party officials, the leaders accused Ogboru of political opportunism and claimed that his return was unauthorized by the ward chairman, who is the only party official empowered to issue membership cards.

“Ogboru’s history of jumping from one party to another, coupled with his alliance with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 elections, makes his return highly suspicious,” the statement read.

They further alleged that Ogboru’s recent ties with the PDP had resulted in political appointments for his loyalists under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration. “His sudden reappearance in APC, without his followers who benefited from PDP appointments, raises serious concerns about his true intentions,” they added.

The party leaders called on APC’s national leadership to intervene, warning that Ogboru’s return could destabilize the party in Ethiope East. “We will not allow anyone to sabotage our collective efforts. The APC in Delta State must remain strong and united ahead of the 2027 elections,” they stated.

Ogboru, a serial governorship candidate in Delta State, has yet to respond to the allegations.
