Suspected political thugs have invaded and vandalised the secretariat of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) at Abejukolo, headquarters of Omala Local Government Area in Kogi State.
The attack, which reportedly occurred in the middle of the night on Saturday, left the party office in ruins, with properties and documents destroyed.
Witnesses in the community said no arrests have been made since the incident occurred.
Reacting to the development, Chairman of the ADC in Omala LGA, Odaudu Ojonimi Friday, condemned the attack, describing it as a deliberate assault on democracy.
“Unknown persons, under the cover of darkness, forcefully gained access to the premises and maliciously destroyed valuable property, including tables, chairs, party documents and flags,” he said.
“This act is not only criminal but also a direct attack on democracy, peace, and the values our party represents. Political differences should never be expressed through violence or destruction. We urge our members and supporters to remain calm, law-abiding, and not to retaliate in any form.”
He stressed that the ADC “remains resolute in its commitment to democratic principles, peaceful engagement, and the pursuit of a better future for our people,” insisting that no form of intimidation would deter the party from serving the people of Kogi State.
The party also called on security agencies to launch a thorough investigation into the incident, arrest those behind the attack, and take steps to prevent future cases of political violence in the area.
Efforts to get a response from the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Kogi State Police Command, SP William Aya, were unsuccessful as he did not answer calls or respond to text messages at the time of filing this report.
