TikTok Skit Lands Ondo Youth in Prison over Alleged Cyberbullying of FRSC Official

A viral TikTok skit has landed a young content creator, Emmanuel Ajibade, in serious legal trouble after he was accused of cyberbullying a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officer in Akure, Ondo State.

The Magistrates’ Court sitting in Akure on Thursday ordered that Ajibade be remanded at the Olokuta Correctional Centre pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Ajibade’s troubles began after he allegedly published content via the TikTok handle checkers69 targeting an FRSC officer, Ibitoye Samuel, in a manner the police say was defamatory and intended to cause public ridicule.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Taiwo Oniyere, told the court that Ajibade, alongside others still at large, committed the offence on April 24, 2025, at the Higher Height Area of Orita Obele, Akure.

“The video was not just misleading but intended to cause annoyance, insult, and emotional distress to the officer,” Oniyere told the court, citing provisions of the Cybercrime Act, 2015.

Ajibade’s lawyer, A.F. Awala, pleaded with the court to allow time for a formal response through a counter-affidavit. However, in her ruling, Chief Magistrate Olateju Odenusi-Fadeyi held that “based on the evidence before the court, and pending legal advice from the DPP, the defendant is to be remanded in the correctional centre till June 27, 2025.”

The case underscores growing concerns about the misuse of social media in Nigeria and the legal boundaries content creators must navigate in their quest for online fame.
